Societies, differing in the aspect of mentality, culture, life style, has always unevitably and compulsory need an intercultural communication vehicle. Translation, in its challenge to find a proper and satisfactory answer to these needs, seems to be as old human activity as the world itself. Cicero, with his famous 'non verbum de verbo, sed sensum exprimere de sensu’, has actually started the discussion, lasting for centuries: discussion between loose and faithful translation methods. <...> Long sentence with complex syntactic structure is one of the most important features of Orhan Pamuk’s novel ‘The Black Book’. By comparative analysis of 512 examples of source sentence-target sentence couples we found that approximately 61% of the examples has undergone certain structural changes in some way, mostly by being divided into a few shorter target sentenses. We also gave our version of target sentence where possible.
